Huawei and Vivo might not be the only companies that have managed to incorporate an in-display fingerprint sensor as another company might be releasing a phone that supports this feature as well.

The company in question is Xiaomi and the team over at XDA Developers have dug into the firmware that is powering the Mi 7 and found codes that shows the workings of the in-display fingerprint sensor. Unlike Vivo that went with Synaptics to get the fingerprint feature, Xiaomi is going with Goodix as some of the code is written as ‘googix_fod’ which could translate to “googix_fingerprint on display”.

When digging into the code for the lock screen, the XDA team managed to find a class by the name of “Gxzw” which refers to a type of fingerprint sensor. Searching in other places shows that there are coordinates on where the fingerprint unlock icon should be and sure enough, it was positioned somewhere close to the middle of the screen.

Above is the mock-up that was created by XDA of what the home screen of the Mi 7 might look like based on the codes. However, in the final firmware build, the codes have been deleted and we might not see the in-display fingerprint sensor on the Mi 7. nevertheless, we should not rule out that the feature might come to the phone, as it could be added back for future flagships that the company has in the pipeline.
