Facebook, who owns popular chatting app WhatsApp, is still planning to implement ads into the latter, as reported by The Information

The plan to do this initially surfaced back in 2018, albeit in the status section of the app – there were then reports earlier this year of the plan being binned, after the team that was tasked to implement the feature disbanded.

It was just temporary however, and it looks like Facebook is revisiting interests in allow ads on WhatsApp once again, however it is unsure where the ads will appear. The Information also reports that Facebook will ‘match’ the users’ phone numbers on both their Facebook and WhatsApp accounts to determine the kind of ads the users will receive.

This also means that Facebook will also go ahead with the plan to merge their messaging apps together into one super chat app – streamlining the process of targeting ads to users. The good news is, this will take several years to develop, according to Engadget; so should there be enough backlash on the decision, there’s still plenty of time for Facebook to abandon their plans again.
