It’s a sad, sad day for Disney Infinity fans as Disney themselves have announced that they will be quitting the video games business as well as halting support for Disney Infinity soon.
In a blogpost found on the Disney Interactive page, the company confirms that Disney Infinity will be discontinued after the release of two final retail releases: Alice Through the Looking Glass and the Finding Dory Play Set. As for Disney’s own video game division, the company has decided to axe it completely as Disney’s second quarter earnings report shows that revenues for the company’s consumer products & interactive media have decreased 2% to USD1.2 billion and segment operating income decreased 8% to USD357 million.
While Disney will not be developing video games on their own, the company will still continue to license out their intellectual properties to other video game developers. For example, the Star Wars license will still be with EA while the Kingdom Hearts series will continue to be a part of Square Enix.
