Digi has been hard at work last year, starting with offering attractive data packages with reasonable prices and dedicated video streaming quota, while further enhancing their network with the implementation of LTE-A and VoLTE to customers. This year is a game changing moment for Digi, as the telco has been awarded the 900MHz spectrum by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, which aims to offer wider coverage outdoors and enhances indoor signals.
“We have been aggressively expanding our network across Malaysia over the past year and today, we are thrilled to be able to serve 85% of Malaysians with high speed, consistent internet on our ‘Network Built for Entertainment’ quoted Digi’s Chief Network Officer Kesavan Sivabalan. The telco has currently covered most populated areas of East Malaysia with its 4G LTE network, while having the most concentrated LTE-A coverage in the Klang Valley area as compared to other networks.
What Digi intends to focus in its network coverage expansion isn’t all about offering the fastest data connection but rather, a consistent experience that reduces lag in things such as video streaming, which is one of the most used data applications among Malaysian users. In addition, the company has also made VoLTE available on all of its 4G coverage areas, which users can experience crystal clear voice calls on supported phone models.
Once the 900MHz spectrum has been activated, it will be layered with the telco’s 1800Mhz and 2600Mhz spectrums, which helps to offer better network capacity for data heavy applications. As of now, Digi’s 4G population coverage now covers 85% nationwide in 275 cities and town, while LTE-A coverage has been implemented in 41% of coverage areas nationwide.
