Dell hasn’t been a big name in the consumer laptop market recently, but we have to admit that their products are still darn good in terms of build quality and reliability. What we’ve got here in our labs is the company’s high performance premium laptop – theDell XPS 15, which we totally fell in love when we receive it from Dell Malaysia. The review unit that we’ve got over here is the base spec model, which has an Intel Core i5-4200H quad core CPU, 8GB RAM, 500GB Hybrid Hard Drive with 16GB Cache, 15” Full HD LED Touch Display with Truelife and Corning Gorilla Glass 3, Intel HD 4600 Graphics, WiFi 802.11 AC with Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and a 6-Cell Battery.

What makes the Dell XPS 15 so attractive is how well built it is, the laptop is built with an aluminum and carbon fiber material which can be found on Apple’s MacBook. Despite being a huge 15-inch laptop, it measures a mere 18mm of thickness and weighs only at 2.01kg according to official specifications, which is almost a KG lighter than most 15-inch laptops in the market.

Lift up the lid of XPS 15 and you will find a spacious LED backlit chiclet keyboard, which has already impressed us with the nice and solid feedback when we type on it and one thing we love about it is that Dell doesn’t cramp the keyboard with a unnecessary number pad area which is available on most 15-inch laptops in the market. The Touchpad is also a big one and has a glass integrated button, which allows us to press the touchpad anywhere we want, again, a similar experience to the MacBook.

Even though we don’t get to see the optional QHD+ (3200×1800) resolution display, the Full HD display is still drop dead gorgeous when you look at it, the screen has a brightness of 400 nits which makes it possible for us to see the display clearly when we are using it outdoors despite being a glossy display. On first impressions, we are happy to report that the display’s color saturation and viewing angles are really good, touch response is remarkable as any touch enabled Windows laptops out there.

Dell has been generous by offering a great number of input ports on the XPS 15, there’s 3 USB 3.0 ports with PowerShare, 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 HDMI port, 1 Mini DisplayPort, SD Card Slot and a Kengsington lock port.

The Dell XPS 15 retails from RM4,999 and up to RM6,399 for the higher spec model that comes with a Core i7 quad-core CPU and that impressive QHD+ display with a few memory component upgrades. Stay tuned to our full review of the XPS 15 coming right up which we’ll be performing benchmarks and tests on the device.
