The MT8173 in particular is an interesting chip as according to sources, instead of using four similar cores, the chip has a pair of high performance Cortex A72 and efficient Cortex A53 cores which makes it a rare mobile processor that we’ve ever seen, the MT8173 is no slouch in its capabilities as it features UHD 30 fps video playback, high display clarity and motion fluency on 120Hz displays. The included PowerVR GX6250 GPU supports OpenGL ES 3.1 and is optimized for WQXGA displays at 60 fps, all of these features could mean that we should be seeing some amazing app and graphical performance on Amazon’s new Fire TV box.
We should expect Amazon to announce its new refreshed Fire product line ups soon, and MediaTek is well known for its affordable system-on-chips so we could expect these new devices to be priced around the same as well.
