Your 4K HDR TV is about to get more useful now, as Apple has finally unveiled the Apple TV 4K in its event today, and it supports HDR with both HDR10 and Dolby Vision profiles. Apple has also announced that most of its video content in the iTunes Store will also be updated to support 4K HDR playback, and current purchased content will automatically be updated if supported, Apple is also working with content providers such as Netflix in enabling 4K HDR playback as well.
With the upgraded capability to playback 4K content, Apple has also upgraded the hardware internals of the Apple TV 4K with the A10 Fusion chip and 3GB of RAM, which delivers two times faster performance and four times better GPU performance than the previous generation, an impressive gameplay demo of Sky in 4K was also shown off at the event to demonstrate the processing power, which we may eventually see more game developers jumping making games for tvOS.
Lastly, sports lovers will be happy to know that Apple is also bringing live sports to the Apple TV 4K, though it isn’t clear which partner Apple will be working to provide the stream and if it will be available right here in Malaysia.
The Apple TV 4K will retail for RM899 for the 32GB model and RM1,099 for the 64GB model, meanwhile the Apple TV 4th Generation 64GB will still be available for RM899, preorders in the US will start September 15 and available on September 22 onwards, other countries will follow soon after.
