Just as recent rumors have pointed out, Apple has finally announced its acquisition of audio recognition company Shazam. This has been part of Apple’s plan for some time now, and given the fact that Shazam is integrated into Apple’s iOS software, it is no surprise that Apple would want to pick Shazam’s brains even further.

Apple has released a statement to The Verge – “We are thrilled that Shazam and its talented team will be joining Apple. Apple Music and Shazam are a natural fit, sharing a passion for music discovery and delivering great music experiences to our users. We have exciting plans in store, and we look forward to combining with Shazam upon approval of today’s agreement.” Apple sealed the deal at $400 million.

Shazam has also broke the good news – “We are excited to announce that Shazam has entered into an agreement to become part of Apple. Shazam is one of the highest rated apps in the world and loved by hundreds of millions of users and we can’t imagine a better home for Shazam to enable us to continue innovating and delivering magic for our users.”

Apple has also been rumored to implement music recognition for the HomePod, so we are guessing that Shazam will play a big role in that. Luckily for Android users, the Shazam app is still available on the Play Store, following rumors that Shazam will soon be exclusive to Apple’s app ecosystem.
