If you happen to be a Nexus device user, you probably cried foul at the fact that the new Google Pixel phones will be running Android Nougat 7.1 out of the box, rendering your Nexus device ancient, though not by much. Good news! Google has announced the Developer Preview of Android Nougat 7.1 for Nougat compatible devices, making sure that Nexus users won’t be left behind, even by the slightest bit.

Android Nougat 7.1 will be built upon the best of Nougat 7.0, with further enhancements, improvements and bug fixes, not forgetting new APIs. Notable updates and improvements include app shortcuts API, circular app icons support, and enhanced wallpaper metadata plus developer features such as image keyboard support and storage manager intent. Users can opt to test out Android Nougat 7.1 Developer Preview by signing up for the Android Beta Program. But if you happen to be on the program and do not wish to get the beta Android update, you may opt out by de-registering yourself from the beta program as well.

Google has stated that Android Nougat 7.1 Developer Preview will be released later this month, before an official release this coming December. The update will be rolled out to only the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixel C, before heading over to the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 before the final release. Do sign up for the beta version of Android Nougat 7.1 if you happen to want it badly. Let us know your thoughts at the comments section below.
