Skype has just gotten itself a new competitor in the video conferencing market as Amazon has launched its own take on the service called Chime.

Built by the Amazon Web Services team, Chime is a business-centric video conferencing service that caters to the needs of companies. The base service for Chime comes with the standard video calls and chat rooms. However, those that are willing to pay for the service will also gain access to virtual meeting rooms, video sharing and screen sharing as well. As Chime is part of the AWS experience, the service also gains the security infrastructure that can be found on other AWS services.

For those looking to try out Chime, the basic tier is completely free and lets you try out the service’s video call and chat room features. For those who want a little more than the basics, Chime has a USD2.50 per month Plus plan that lets you use your corporate directory, as well as features such as screen sharing. Finally, the USD15 per month Pro plan gets you all of the above as well as video meeting features that can support up to 100 users simultaneously. The service is available for Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android devices, meaning you can test the service out on both your desktop machines and on your mobile devices.
