Samsung finally revealed the causes of its Galaxy Note 7 fire cases last year, which extended to its replacement units as well. Numerous fire incidents surrounding what might have been the best phone of 2016 forced Samsung to put a halt to the sales of the Galaxy Note 7 and eventually issuing a global recall, deeming the flagship phablet as unsafe for daily use.

Many have speculated that Samsung will be suffering a big blow due to the fateful Galaxy Note 7, but the truth is the South Korean manufacturer’s performance for Q4 2016 turned out to be the most profitable quarter in three years. The earnings were mainly contributed by its display panels and memory business. The strong greenback against the Korean Won has also reflected positively on Samsung’s earnings.

Samsung’s profits from its mobile division have also increased due to the ongoing high demand of the flagship Galaxy S7 series, which led to a solid sales performance throughout the quarter. The improved results were also fueled by the fact that the company’s entry level and mid range devices were more profitable. It sure looks like Samsung didn’t have to “bounce back” from its losses. Instead, the company delivered excellently in terms of sales figures despite the discontinuation of the Galaxy Note 7. What do you think?
