Xiaomi has officially launched the REDMI Note 17 Series in Malaysia, introducing four new models and bringing the lineup’s biggest focus yet on long-term durability, battery longevity and everyday reliability. The family consists of the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G, REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, REDMI Note 17 5G and REDMI Note 17, with the Pro Max marking the first time Xiaomi has used the name in the REDMI Note range.
The launch also comes as the REDMI Note Series surpasses 500 million shipments globally, with Xiaomi positioning the new generation around its “Built for Years” philosophy. Across the lineup, users can expect up to six years of security updates, while selected models are designed to retain battery health for a similar period. The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G goes a step further with what Xiaomi describes as a six-year “like-new” software experience.
10,000mAh Battery Leads the REDMI Note 17 Series
The biggest headline is the battery. The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G packs Xiaomi’s largest smartphone battery to date at 10,000mAh, using silicon-carbon technology with 16% silicon content. It supports 100W HyperCharge and up to 27W reverse charging, with Xiaomi claiming up to three days of battery life under its test conditions.
The rest of the lineup also receives unusually large batteries for the mid-range segment. The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G comes with an 8,340mAh battery and 67W HyperCharge, while the REDMI Note 17 5G and REDMI Note 17 both feature 7,700mAh batteries with 45W charging.
Xiaomi says the batteries retain at least 80% of their original capacity after 1,600 charge cycles, which the company equates to roughly six years of typical use. Battery durability is further backed by TÜV SÜD 5-star Battery Performance Certification.
REDMI Titan Quality Brings Stronger Drop and Water Resistance
Durability is another major focus this generation. The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G and REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G are the first smartphones in the industry to receive TÜV SÜD 5-star Titan Quality Certification, covering drop resistance, water resistance and battery performance.
Both Pro models carry IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings and have passed a 2-metre, 72-hour water-resistance test. They also introduce an Underwater Mode via OTA update, although Xiaomi notes that this does not turn the phones into professional diving devices.
For accidental drops, the Pro models have been SGS-certified to withstand drops from up to three metres onto granite under test conditions. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 adds extra protection against scratches and impacts, while a reinforced motherboard, strengthened mid-frame and impact-absorbing internal structure are designed to protect key components.
Large Displays, AI Features and New Design
The REDMI Note 17 Series also introduces a cleaner design with flat displays, rounded corners, redesigned camera modules and dual-finish rear panels. The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G gets an exclusive Cloud Blush finish with a photochromic back that shifts from white to a warm pink-orange tone under UV light.
The Pro models feature 6.83-inch displays with 1.5K resolution and up to 3,500 nits peak brightness, while the REDMI Note 17 5G and REDMI Note 17 use larger 6.99-inch displays. Xiaomi also quotes a 3,200Hz instantaneous touch sampling rate on supported modes for more responsive gaming.
Performance is led by the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 platform. The Pro models support up to 16GB RAM through memory extension, while the entire series includes Google Gemini and Circle to Search. The Pro Max additionally gets Xiaomi HyperAI for productivity and creative assistance.
Camera features include true-to-life portrait processing, dual-video recording across the lineup and 4K 30fps recording on the REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G. The Pro models also add AI editing tools such as AI Glare Removal, AI Erase Pro, AI Beautify and AI Image Enhancement.
Malaysia Pre-Order Promotions
Pre-orders for the REDMI Note 17 Series are now open at Xiaomi Stores until 2 September 2026, with online pre-orders through mi.com and Xiaomi’s official Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop stores running from 2 to 4 September.
The REDMI Note 17 Pro Max 5G and REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G are available in 8GB+256GB and 8GB+512GB configurations. Customers can place a RM100 non-refundable deposit and receive a RM300 discount on selected pre-order slots, alongside free gifts including the REDMI Headphones Neo and Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Active.
The pre-order package also includes extended warranty benefits comprising a five-year battery warranty, three years of screen protection, two years of liquid damage coverage, two years of back cover warranty and two years of quality warranty, together with two months of YouTube Premium and six months of Google One with 200GB storage.
Xiaomi has yet to disclose the final Malaysian retail prices in the supplied launch materials, so those details are expected to be announced separately.
