Insta360 has officially unveiled the Luna Ultra, its most ambitious imaging product yet and the company’s first entry into the premium gimbal camera category. Co-engineered with Leica, the new camera combines professional imaging capabilities, advanced stabilization technology and AI-powered shooting tools in a compact form factor designed for content creators, vloggers and mobile filmmakers.

Set to be available in Malaysia starting June 10, the Insta360 Luna Ultra carries a starting price of RM2,999 and aims to redefine what creators can expect from a portable camera system.

Leica Optics Meet Insta360’s Imaging Expertise

At the heart of the Luna Ultra is a Leica Summicron lens paired with a large 1-inch sensor capable of capturing 8K video and high-resolution photography. Designed to deliver professional image quality in a compact package, the camera combines Leica’s renowned optical expertise with Insta360’s imaging technologies developed across its action and 360-degree camera lineup.

The Luna Ultra also features a dedicated telephoto camera equipped with a 1/1.3-inch sensor and an F2.0 aperture, allowing creators to shoot across multiple focal lengths while achieving natural background separation and cinematic depth-of-field effects.

Users can take advantage of up to 12x zoom, including 6x lossless zoom, providing greater flexibility when shooting subjects at varying distances without sacrificing image quality.

8K Video Recording With Professional Color Workflows

The Luna Ultra is capable of recording video at up to 8K resolution at 30fps while supporting Dolby Vision and 10-bit I-Log recording.

For creators who demand greater flexibility during editing, the camera offers up to 14 stops of dynamic range, preserving detail across both highlights and shadows while providing more room for colour grading in post-production.

Photography enthusiasts are also catered for, with support for 37MP UltraPhotos and ultra-high-resolution 200MP Scenic Panorama images.

To further improve image quality in challenging environments, Insta360 has integrated PureVideo Mode, which enhances low-light performance by reducing noise and boosting brightness and detail for footage captured at up to 4K60fps.

Powering these imaging capabilities is a Triple AI Chip architecture designed to accelerate image processing and support advanced computational photography features.

Industry-First Detachable OLED Touchscreen

One of the Luna Ultra’s most unique features is its detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen.

Unlike traditional gimbal cameras, the display can be removed from the main camera body and used wirelessly as a remote monitor and controller. The system supports HD wireless transmission at distances of up to 20 meters, making it ideal for solo creators, group shots and creative camera placements.

This innovative design gives creators significantly more flexibility when filming themselves without needing an additional camera operator.

Compact Design With Powerful Stabilization

Despite its advanced imaging hardware, the Luna Ultra remains highly portable, weighing just over 200g.

The camera combines a mechanical 3-axis gimbal stabilization system with electronic image stabilization to deliver smooth footage while walking, running or capturing moving subjects.

To further enhance shooting flexibility, Insta360 has equipped the Luna Ultra with Deep Track 5.0, its latest AI-powered subject tracking technology.

The system supports Auto Tracking, Active Zoom Tracking, Group Tracking and Smart Framing, allowing the camera to intelligently keep subjects centered and in focus throughout a scene.

Designed for Professional Workflows

The Luna Ultra isn’t just designed for casual creators.

Insta360 has incorporated several professional workflow features including support for Leica Natural, Leica Vivid and Leica Chrome colour profiles. The camera also supports ACES (Academy Color Encoding System), making it easier to integrate footage into professional production pipelines.

Built-in timecode functionality allows multi-camera synchronization for projects edited in applications such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro.

Additional creator-focused tools include QR Color Share for transferring colour settings between devices and AI-powered editing tools within the Insta360 app that can automatically identify highlights and generate ready-to-share content.

Expanded Audio and Accessory Ecosystem

Audio performance has also been enhanced with a built-in wind guard designed to reduce unwanted outdoor noise.

The Luna Ultra is fully compatible with Insta360’s microphone ecosystem, supporting both single and dual-transmitter microphone setups for more professional audio capture.

To further expand creative possibilities, Insta360 is launching a range of dedicated accessories including a POV Head Tracker for hands-free filming, Black Mist filters for cinematic diffusion effects, a Wide-Angle Lens that expands the field of view to 108 degrees and ND filters for greater control over motion blur and exposure.

Pricing and Availability

The Insta360 Luna Ultra will officially go on sale beginning June 10 through the Insta360 Store, Shopee, Lazada and selected retailers.

In Malaysia, the camera is priced from RM2,999 and will be available in two colour options: Cosmic Black and Stellar White.

With Leica optics, 8K video recording, AI-powered tracking, professional colour workflows and an innovative detachable touchscreen design, the Luna Ultra is positioning itself as one of the most compelling creator-focused camera launches of 2026.
