With Samsung reportedly suspending production of the Galaxy Note 7 yesterday, the Korean company has announced that it will be freezing sales of the Galaxy Note 7 today.
In a statement released by Samsung today, the company has announced that it will ask all of its global partners to stopp sales and exchanges of the Note 7 while further investigation takes place. For those who currently have a Note 7 in hand, regardless of whether or not it is an original model or the replacement model, Samsung is advising users to “power down” the device and request for a full refund from either a carrier, a retailer, or Samsung directly. Samsung itself will be working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to investigate the problem behind the exploding replacement units.
Samsung’s decision to halt sales of the Note 7 was inevitable after multiple reports of the Note 7 exploding. At this point, the Note 7’s reputation may have been damaged beyond repair, so it may be possible that Samsung will be scrapping the Note 7 altogether. Of course, it is possible that Samsung will relaunch the Note 7 sometime next year, although only time will tell if Samsung manages to figure out if the Note 7 can be salvaged without needing a complete overhaul in its manufacturing or design.

It is final, Samsung is officially pulling the plug on the Note 7. The Wall Street Journal has reported that the Korean company will no longer be selling the smartphone as replacement Note 7s are shown to have the same defect that the original production have. “Taking our customer’s safety as our highest priority, we have decided to halt sales and production of the Galaxy Note 7,” says a statement issued by Samsung.
