Back in 1994, Looking Glass made an FPS-RPG hybrid game known as System Shock. This game would go on to spawn a highly acclaimed sequel in System Shock II, as well being the inspiration for the Bioshock series. Now, 22 years after the game was first released, Nightdive Studios is looking to do a complete remake of the original System Shock. To do so, they’ve taken to Kickstarter to ask those who wish to see it to fund their efforts.

According to the Kickstarter page, this remake of System Shock will be built on the Unity Engine. As expected of a remake, System Shock 2016 will be a modern take on the 1994 game. Improvements, overhauls and changes will be implemented to the capture the spirit of what the original game is trying to convey, and bring it to contemporary gamers. The story is the same, with the player character facing down the infamous crazed A.I. known as SHODAN on Citadel Station.

However, unlike most other video games-related Kickstarter, a demo for the System Shock remake is available for download on Steam, GOG and the Humble Store. If you don’t feel comfortable with blindly backing yet another video game Kickstarter, you can try out the demo first and make your decision. The System Shock remake is scheduled to be available in December 2017.
