The Galaxy Note 7 is rumored to make its big reveal in less than two months from now, and from a couple months back, there were multiple claims and reports about the possibility of the flagship phablet sporting an iris scanner. This time, a report from The Korea Herald further supports the floating rumor which has been in existence for quite some time now.

According to The Korea Herald, the Galaxy Note 7 will pack a front facing iris scanner. The components for the iris scanner are said to be shipped by Patron, a Korean camera manufacturer that’s in charge. The report further states that Samsung has been planning to have iris scanners on their flagships as early as when the Galaxy S4 was being designed, which tells us that Samsung probably had that in mind since 2012, considering the fact that the S4 was released in early 2013.

Iris scanning technology is said to be more accurate and secure compared to fingerprint scanning. The report mentioned that fingerprint scanning technology recognizes 40 traits from a fingerprint, whereas iris scanning technology recognizes a far higher number of traits at 266, which is more than six times the traits that fingerprint scanning technology detects. Iris scanners were apparently less user friendly than fingerprint scanners back then, but that was more than three years back. We’ll be expecting more leaks and reports like this to come our way. What do you think?
