LG has unveiled several key specs of their upcoming LG Velvet smartphone series ahead of its launch this 7 May. Over on their blog post, it has also been confirmed that the official South Korean sale date will be 15 May.

In terms of aesthetics, the blog says that the phone will be a 6.8-inch device with a Cinema FullVision panel that boasts an aspect ratio of 20.5:9. The display is also curved à la every flagship launched this year – and LG is calling their take on the display trend the ‘3D Arc Design’.

Moving on to what makes the phone – the cameras. They’re laid out in what LG calls the ‘waterdrop’ design where three lenses are placed vertically below one another without a camera module. The main shooter here is a 48MP shooter, accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide camera, as well as a 5MP depth sensor.

According to the blog post, videography on the phone is bolstered by a voice-background separation feature that can filter out noise like wind, and more to make the subjects voice clearer.

Under the hood, the LG Velvet is powered with a Snapdragon 765 chipset with 5G connectivity. The blog post didn’t specify the memory configurations but we can assume at least 6GB RAM with around 128GB of internal storage.

The phone does come with a 4,300mAh battery but, again, no specifics of fast charge support and max wattage.

As the LG Velvet is designed on an aesthetic-forward focus, the phone comes in a host of interesting colours – the stand-out one is the Illusion Sunset that has a yellow-pink gradient. There’s also Aurora Green, Aurora, White, and Aurora Grey.

There’s no word on its official pricing yet, we’ll know that when the device is launched this 7 May. We’ll also hope the device makes its way here in the country, albeit somewhat unlikely considering LG has been quiet in the smartphone department here in Malaysia for some time now.
