There were talks of a Samsung Galaxy S20 series smartphones getting a WQHD 120Hz display – and it seemed like a somewhat logical progression for Samsung to outdo the OnePlus 7’s 90Hz panel.

Unfortunately however, serial leakster Ice Universe had gone on to Twitter, saying with “certainty” that Samsung will not be using a WQHD 120Hz panel on any of their Galaxy S20 smartphones. But Instead, a 120Hz FHD panel will be offered. The only WQHD offering will have a 60Hz refresh rate, and this will most likely be on the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

The 120Hz will look to be equipped in the Galaxy S20+ while the most mundane FHD 60Hz panel will be used in the regular Galaxy S20.

A 120Hz panel is still impressive, we’ve only seen something like this on the ROG Phone 2 – trust us when we say 120Hz smartphone displays are as silky smooth as you’d expect.

To feature such a high frequency panel would require a massive battery too, and we mentioned in our previous report that the Galaxy S20 Ultra could have a 5,000mAh battery pack, which is sufficient if Samsung’s software optimization can aid in lowering power consumption.
