As per a yearly tradition, Qualcomm has taken to the stage at the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2019 to announce their newest Snapdragon 865 flagship chipset.
According to The Verge, the chip will be used exclusively on 5G smartphones, however the chipset uses an external X55 modem to provide 5G connectivity instead of an integrated one. This means a higher power consumption and price.
What’s surprising is that Qualcomm had also introduced the lower-end Snapdragon 765 chipset, which comes with an integrated 5G modem. With the X55 modem however, you get a more adaptable smartphone that can support multiple 5G standards.
According to Lowyat.net, the chipset is capable of offering 2 Gigapixel images meaning you can put a 200MP sensor on the phone and even capture 8K videos.
The chipset will be available in 2020 and other sources report that Xiaomi and OPPO will be the first few brands to adopt the new chipset.
