Android fragmentation still remains an issue to this date. As much as the operating system has improved and matured over the years, the adoption of the latest Android version on an annual basis still remains very low. Since the launch of Android Nougat, it appears that only 0.3 percent of Android users are on the latest Android OS. Nevertheless, major OEM’s have been working hard behind the scenes to provide their users with the latest Android experience, and it looks like ZTE will be on the early list.

According to a tweet by ZTE Germany (ZTE Mobile DE), Axon 7 users will be getting their cut of Android 7.0 Nougat in January, which happens to be less than two months away. This announcement comes after LG began rolling out Nougat software updates to its South Korean users earlier this week, plus Samsung’s Galaxy Beta Program that was announced for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users just several hours earlier today. If ZTE stays true to its claim on a January Nougat rollout, it might possibly beat Samsung to the Nougat chase for its devices.

The tweet by ZTE Mobile DE did not mention whether or not the rollout will be region specific, or a gradual rollout starting from a certain region before spreading worldwide. The Axon 7, one of the underdogs among the big players with high end specs and a low price. Announced earlier this year in May, the Axon 7’s software happens to be less polished when compared to the competition, running on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 with MiFavor UI skinned on top. Let’s hope that an Android Nougat software update will bring some changes and improvements.
