Zoom was previously under a lot of heat for the lack of security, causing user data to be leaked and trolls to “Zoombomb” others. To rectify the situation, the company has released a few updates including enhanced encryption and setting to report participants.
There will be a Zoom client version released on April 26 and once that’s downloaded, the Zoom host can choose to hide all participants’ profile pictures. They can also report participants if they’re being inappropriate. “This feature will generate a report which will be sent to the Zoom Trust and Safety team to evaluate any misuse of the platform and block a user if necessary.” This will prove useful to counter the “Zoombombers” who have been invading meeting calls and displaying explicit behavior.
The pandemic has led to many to start working from home, which resulted in an overwhelming increase in Zoom users. The company had 200 million daily meeting participants in March and that 20x the amount of participants they had in December 2019. Zoom CEO also acknowledged the “Zoombombing” issue, which is why feature updates for Zoom are temporarily paused while the company focuses on privacy and security.
