Nothing is quite as annoying on YouTube as 30-second long ads that are unskippable. Thankfully for YouTube users, those ads will no longer be a problem in the future as YouTube has announced that it will be removing these unskippable full-length commercials from its service in 2018.
In order to offset the removal of unskippable full-length ads from YouTube, the company is looking to implement ad formats that “work well for both users and advertisers.” While the wording for that remains vague, UK publication Campaign believes that YouTube is looking to expand upon shorter ad formats such as the six-second unskippable ad format that YouTube has been using for a while now.
While sitting through an ad is never a pleasant experience, YouTube’s removal of 30-second unskippable ads is a welcomed change for many. That said, those changes will only come into effect next year, so in the meantime, you’ll still have to sit through these long advertisments. For those of us who rely on adblock systems though, this change would probably not affect us in any way, shape or form.
