Xiaomi has introduced their transparent TV – yes, you read that right – dubbed the Mi TV LIX OLED Transparent Edition, the product is supposedly the world’s first mass-produced see-through television according to Xiaomi.
The TV is decked, edge-to-edge, with a transparent OLED panel (obviously) that measures 55-inches; it offers a contrast ratio of 150000:1 alongside and ‘infinite dynamic contrast ratio’ which offers darker blacks and higher brightness. It also supports a colour output of DCI-P3 93% too. However, because the panel is transparent, how clear you see the images will depend on the backdrop.

The TV also puts out a 1080p resolution and a whopping 120Hz refresh rate which makes it great for gaming too if you’re willing to hook it up to your PC. Its 1ms response rate could make it worthwhile too.
On top of that, the display itself is very thin as it should be for the transparent panel to work – but the base that holds up the device looks to be quite hefty. The circular base looks like it’ll take up quite a bit of space; however, Xiaomi hasn’t provided official measurements of the entire TV yet so we can’t tell for sure how hefty the base is. But there’s a reason for the hefty platform.

Because the screen has to be very thin and transparent, all the TV’s processing components need to be packed down below, in said base. With that said, this TV doesn’t look like it’s designed to be mounted on a wall for obvious reasons.
Speaking of hardware, the TV is powered by a MediaTek 9650 chipset, and runs on the new MIUI 3.0 for TVs. For audio, the product supports Dolby Atmos sound too.
The TV will go on sale in China this August 16 for 49,999 Yuan (RM30,197) – there’s no word on when it’ll be available globally or in Malaysia yet, but with Xiaomi’s ecosystem products slowly making their way – like its gaming monitor, TV Stick, and electric scooter – into the country, perhaps Xiaomi could consider bringing the TV to Malaysia as well.
