The popular Xiaomi Mi Band series of budget fitness trackers has a new addition to the family in the Mi Smart Band 5 – introduced globally earlier this month, the device has finally made its way in the country and is priced at RM169.
Specs
As a recap, the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 is equipped with a 1.1-inch AMOLED display that pushes a 126×294 ppi resolution, and a maximum brightness of 450 nitts. To make it truly yours, you can spruce up your watch with over 65 themes and watch faces.
When it comes to features, you can customise the type of modules that appear on your watch face depending on what information you want quick access to. There’s also the added menstrual cycle tracking feature now. This variant of the watch still doesn’t support NFC – for that, you’ll have to get the Chinese version.
Under the hood, the watch now boasts a better optimized PPG (photoplethysmography) sensor for more accurate heart rate tracking. Powering the watch is a 120mAh battery that lasts 14 days on standby according to Xiaomi. One of the most important improvements on the Mi Smart Band 5 is the switch to a magnetic charging port at the back of the watch; this means that you don’t have to remove the watch strap before charging it anymore.

Speaking of straps, there are plenty of colours to choose from including yellow, orange, black, teal, navy blue, and mint green – however, your purchase will come with the black strap while the other colours are sold separately.
