Xiaomi’s Mi Box will be heading to the west, specifically the US, in the near future, where Android TV boxes are growing in numbers in US households. Though the Mi Box wasn’t unveiled at I/O, the news was broken on the company’s Twitter feed and its US website.
The Mi Box will most likely carry an affordable, not to mention, a highly competitive price point which might pose as a potential threat to NVIDIA’s SHIELD Android TV set-top box. The Xiaomi set-top box supports 4K when you stream from apps such as Netflix, Hulu and YouTube. It also supports HDR video and can handle videos up to 60fps. In addition to that, the Mi Box runs Android TV 6.0 out of the box, and is Google Cast ready via a single tap, according to Xiaomi.
Included with the Mi Box is a Bluetooth remote control which supports voice commands. Plus, a Mi Game Controller will be available for purchase for some gaming goodness from the comfort of your living room couch. Based on the specs sheet of the Mi Box, it packs a quad-core Cortex A-53 processor, alongside 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which has USB unlimited storage expansion. Sounds like the Xiaomi will give NVIDIA a run for their money stateside.
