Xiaomi has been active all year long, launching numerous devices in what seems like the Chinese manufacturer’s best performing year so far. Having unveiled the high end Mi Note 2 flagship phablet and its attractive Mi MIX concept smartphone, the company shifts its focus to the entry level side of the spectrum again. Xiaomi has recently introduced the Redmi Note 4, and now it has launched the smaller Redmi 4, three variants to be exact.
The Redmi 4 series will be replacing the Redmi 3 collection, including the Redmi 3s. Let’s begin with the standard variant, the Redmi 4. There appears to be no significant changes with the Redmi 4 when compared to its predecessor. The handset sports the same 720p resolution display at 5-inches. Underneath the hood, the Redmi 4 sees a new Snapdragon 430 processor while retaining the same memory configuration of 2GB RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. The phone features a similar but likely upgraded 13MP PDAF rear camera. Below the camera sits the rear fingerprint sensor. Supplying the power for the whole package is a bigger than usual 4,100mAh battery.
The Redmi 4A is a simpler version of the Redmi 4, carrying a lower price tag as well. It packs the same 5-inch 720p screen, and the same 2GB RAM and 16GB storage configuration but with a slightly toned down processor – the Snapdragon 425. The camera on the back appears to be the same as the standard variant of the Redmi 4, but the Redmi 4A does not have a rear fingerprint scanner, another contributing factor to its price cut. It also packs a roughly 25% smaller battery at a capacity of 3,120mAh.
The Redmi 4 Pro on the other hand, as its name states, is the highest end of the 3 Redmi 4’s. It retains the same 5-inch display size, but with Full HD 1080p resolution. Internally, the Redmi 4 Pro sports a more impressive Snapdragon 625 processor, alongside an upgraded memory configuration of 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage. Sitting on the back of this premium variant is a 16MP PDAF camera, plus a rear fingerprint sensor. Battery capacity remains the same as the standard model at 4,100mAh capacity.
The Redmi 4A, Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Pro are priced at 499 CNY, 699 CNY and 899 CNY respectively, carrying on Xiaomi’s strive to provide affordable handsets. What do you think of this newly launched Redmi 4 series?
