Why the Nexus 6P costs RM2,698

In 2010, Google aimed to show the world what it envisioned in an Android phone. To that end, they’ve designed the Nexus line of smartphones, a combination of powerful hardware and stock Android that promises to deliver a pure Android experience.

The Nexus 6P is Huawei’s first crack at the top-of-the-line range of Nexus smartphones. Hitting Malaysian shores mid-last week, the Nexus 6P is priced at RM 2,698, the exact same price of Huawei’s other flagship, the Huawei Mate S. While the price may be steep in some people’s eye, Huawei believes that it is appropriately priced when compared to its predecessors as well as its competitors. Here are some reasons why they think it so.

The most high quality Nexus yet

Huawei are no strangers to making premium smartphones and it shows in the Nexus 6P. For the Nexus 6P, Huawei has opted for an all-metal, high quality aluminium design. Further adding to the device’s looks and high quality feel is the glass covered strip. To increase the durability of the Nexus 6P’s screen, Huawei has equipped it with Gorilla Glass 4. Speaking of the screen, the Nexus 6P sports an AMOLED panel, giving it superior contrast and black levels when compared to the Nexus 5X’s LCD display. Using their own expertise in biometrics technology, Huawei has equipped the Nexus 6P with a fingerprint sensor with the Nexus Imprint, a first for the Nexus line of smartphones. Also a first is that the Nexus 6P runs on Android Marshmallow, making it the first device to utilise the latest iteration of Google’s own Android OS.

Performance like never before

Besides style, Huawei has paid extra attention to the substance of the Nexus 6P. Coming with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor, the performance of the Nexus 6P far outstrips all other Nexus devices while still being gentle on the battery. Speaking of battery, the Nexus 6P’s 3,450mAh battery gives the smartphone a long lifespan and to augment it further, it comes with a reversible USB Type-C port for fast charging, allowing users to get 10 hours of use in just 7 minutes of charging.

A Nexus with a sexy camera

Cameras on the previous versions of Nexus smartphones are not exactly a selling point. Huawei is set to change that as the Nexus 6P comes fitted with a 12.3MP Sony IMX377 Exmor R sensor that has large 1.55 micrometer pixels and an f/2.0 aperture lens, giving the Nexus 6P’s camera a boost in performance even in low light conditions. The Nexus 6P also comes with a quick launch shortcut for easy access to the camera function.

Malaysia has the best pricing, much more value for money compared to Samsung

When you compare the prices of the Nexus 6P in Malaysia to other countries, you’ll find that the Nexus 6P is cheaper here than in other countries, such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. The pricing of the Nexus 6P is also RM 1 less than Samsung’s key model. Based on insights from some industry insiders, the cost of producing the Nexus 6P is higher than its Samsung rival, making the Nexus 6P a better valued phone by comparison.
