As NAS storage becomes more common and we require more storage to store our files, WD has finally introduced its new WD Red and WD Red Pro NAS hard drives here in Malaysia, the WD Red’s storage option starts from 1TB up to 6TB while the WD Red Pro starts from 2TB up to 4TB. Both hard drives have a SATA 3 6Gb/s interface and 64GB of buffer cache.

The difference between the WD Red and WD Red Pro is obviously performance and power consumption, the WD Red has an IntelliPower rotational speed which is a fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance, it is made for home and SOHO users who uses 1-8 bays NAS. On the other hand, the WD Red Pro is the higher performance model that offers a constant standard desktop hard drive’s performance at 7200RPM and made for demanding users that uses 8-16 bays NAS.

Both the WD Red and WD Red Pro supports WD’s NASWARE 3.0 that offers better protection and reliability while having native built-in RAID support, the WD Red and WD Red Pro are also engineered for challenging environments with hot temperatures.
