With SSDs being more commonplace these days, it is a curiosity that Western Digital has yet to release their own for the consumer market. That is no longer the case, as WD has announced that it will be releasing the WD Blue and WD Green SSDs, both of which are meant for personal consumers.

For the WD Blue SSD, Western Digital states that the Solid State Drive will come in both 2.5″/7mm case or M.2 2280 form factors, and will offer up to 545MB/s and 525MB/s sequential read and write speeds, with endurance of up to 400TBW. The WD Blue comes in 250GB, 500GB and 1TB configurations, and has an MSRP that ranges from USD79 to USD299. The WD Blue is now available to select customers worldwide and can be bought from Western Digital’s own website.

Alongside the WD Blue is the WD Green SSD. Much like the WD Blue, the WD Green comes in both 2.5″/7mm case or M.2 2280 form factors. However, the WD Green emphasizes ultra-low power-draw, enabling laptop users to work longer between battery charges. As such, it comes with a lower sequential read and write speed of 540MB/s and 405MB/s respectively. The WD Green will be available in 120GB and 240GB configurations, and will be made available to select regions and customers later this quarter.
