If you have been looking for a smartphone that takes high resolution selfies, Vivo has launched the V5s smartphone today, the successor to the original V5 gets better with more storage while maintaining the same 20-megapixel front camera with an upgraded selfie softlight.

In terms of specs, the V5s isn’t much of an upgrade from the V5, as it is still powered by the same Mediatek MT6750 octa-core processor paired to 4GB of RAM, aesthetics also remain the same with a 7.55mm slim body profile and weighs 154 grams, the phone’s display also remains at 5.5-inches with an acceptable HD resolution, and battery size is unchanged at 3000mAh. What’s new here is that the internal storage has been upgraded to 64GB, and it is expandable via a MicroSD card using the second SIM slot.

Software wise, the V5s comes preloaded with the latest Funtouch OS 3.0 based on Android Marshmallow, which delivers a better user experience with some new software tricks. For instance, the 20-megapixel camera gets an updated Face Beauty 6.0 feature, which beautifies your face based on research from one thousand faces, making your skin tone natural when applied, a Group Selfie feature allows more faces to be captured in a single frame and for the busy folks, there’s the App Clone feature that allows you to use multiple social media and messaging accounts.

The V5s isn’t all about selfies as well, as its main 13-megapixel camera now comes with an Ultra HD mode, which upscales picture resolution up to 52-megapixel to show extreme clarity on subjects, there’s also phase detection autofocus which will help capture fast moving objects with ease.

Available in colors of Matte Black, Gold and Rose Gold, the Vivo V5s is available for preorder and will go on sale on May 10, with a retail price of RM1,299.
