Things may still be messy at the pinnacle of Uber, with former CEO Travis Kalanick forced to step down in the light of recent controversies and scandals, but business is still as usual for the popular ride sharing service, as the company looks to an Uber 2.0 future. Regardless, there is a new feature on the Uber app, which now allows you to book rides on behalf of someone else.
This new feature comes especially handy after some extensive research done by Uber. We live in a world where technology is inevitable, but some individuals, notably the elderly just can’t keep up, and this new feature on the Uber app speaks for them. When users select a pickup location for the ride, Uber will ask whether or not its for them or for a family member or friend. The app will then allow you to select the rider from your address book, and the rider will receive the contact details of that particular rider, and a text message will also be sent to the rider.
This is certainly a welcome addition to the Uber app, in efforts to reach out to those who aren’t as tech savvy, or aren’t smartphone owners. According to Uber, the feature is rolling out to 30 countries today, before hitting it globally.
