This was probably the longest Uber ride ever, nearly two years in fact. Well that’s how long Uber took to develop its own app for Android Wear, a rough two year journey since it was showcased and promised back at Google I/O 2015. Since the announcement back in 2015, Uber has been keeping quiet about its app development for Android Wear, and it has finally been fulfilled. You can now request for a ride from the comfort of your own wrist.
The Uber app on Android Wear however, does come with a slight catch – it only works on Android Wear 2.0, meaning as of now, only the new LG Watch Style and LG Watch Sport support Uber on Android Wear. Chances are that you don’t own either watch just yet, or you will have to wait till your Android smartwatch gets the update to Android Wear 2.0, if it is supported in the first place.
Nevertheless, the Uber app for Android Wear is stand alone, which means riders can request rides on their Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches if they don’t have their smartphones with them. The standalone Uber app allows you to search for top destinations and consists of shortcuts to home and work. You will also be able to check your driver’s progress right from the app.
Uber drivers on the other hand don’t have such convenience just yet for the Uber Driver app, perhaps it’s just eyes on the road for them. Will the Android Wear Uber app make your life any easier?
