This UNISOC chip has serious security flaws

UNISOC chips have recently become popular on budget phones and tablets, but as cheap as they are, you might want to look out for those that uses the UNISOC SC9863A chip, as security firm Kryptowire has identified security and privacy vulnerabilities on devices that could be exploited by hackers to get access to user data and functionality of the device.

The SC9863A chip is commonly found on budget Chinese tablets, such as the Teclast P80 and Alldocube iPlay 20 Pro tablet which can be purchased from Shopee and Lazada. With the chip being exploited, hackers can basically have total control of your device up to the point where it can even remotely activate the device’s camera.

The issue has since been reported to UNISOC since December 2021 by Kryptowire, while device manufacturers and carriers have also been notified of the issue, so expect to see a patch rolling out for your SC9863A equipped device and make sure you hit that update button without hesitation when the time comes.
