Meet the most expensive music player ever from Sony, the flagship Walkman NW-ZX2 music player is now officially available from Sony Malaysia and it retails two times more than its predecessor at RM4999. The NW-ZX2 is much bigger and bulkier than the NW-ZX1 however it features a more rigid and solid construction than its predecessor, while featuring the same leather back for better grip and the same 4-inch FWVGA (854×480) display, the new flagship Walkman from Sony still runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly bean and added support for MicroSD expansion on top of the 128GB internal storage.

Announced back in Consumer Electronics Show this year, the NW-ZX2 has improved wireless audio transmission with the company’s very own LDAC Technology that aims to transfer more bandwidth than aptX to wireless output devices with the most minimal latency. When we asked Sony reps if anyone would buy its most expensive player, they are confident that the NW-ZX2 will appeal to a niche market of audiophiles and they are paying for the product that doesn’t compromise its hardware components, the NW-ZX2’s body is carved from a singleb block of aluminum alloy and has adopted a gold-plated copperplate in the structure that results in an extremely stable ground due to its low electric resistivity.

The NW-ZX2 will have the usual wireless connectivity options found on its predecessor – Bluetooth, NFC and WiFi 802.11b/g/n, Sony’s own S-Master HX Digital Amplifier and DSEE HX is also present, file format support includes MP3, WMA, FLAC (192KHz/24bit), Linear PCM (192KHz/24bit), WAV (192KHz/24bit), AAC-LC, HE-AAC, Apple Lossless (192KHz/24bit), AIFF (192KHz/24bit) and DSD (2.8MHz, 5.6MHz). Last but not the least, Sony rates the NW-ZX2’s battery life up to 60 hours of MP3 (128kbps) Playback and 33 Hours of Hi-Res audio (FLAC 192KHz/24bit) playback, which is double the playback time of its predecessor.

The Sony Walkman NW-ZX2 is now available at Sony Stores and its authorized resellers, if you have some money to spend on audio, this could be something in your shopping list, otherwise this isn’t a device that the average consumer will be able to afford.
