While Apple’s Phil Schiller has mentioned in the Keynote that the company wants to make iPhones more accessible to more customers, the iPhone XR is the ‘accessible’ phone that was announced today that doesn’t seem too accessible with a starting price of $749, though that’s actually a significant price cut from the higher end iPhone Xs, it still isn’t quite an affordable iPhone.
Unlike the iPhone Xs, the iPhone XR comes with a 6.1″ LCD display that Apple calls it the Liquid Retina display, it doesn’t support 3D Touch but comes with a haptic touch that gives you a vibration feedback when say, for instance, pressing the volume button to snap a photo.
The iPhone XR also gets a lower IP67 rating as opposed to the Xs, but it does come with six beautiful colors with aerospace grade aluminum and glass build, so that’s definitely an improvement as opposed to the iPhone 5C’s ‘unapologetically plastic’ build.
Fortunately, if you don’t really care about the dual cameras and OLED display on the iPhone XS, the iPhone XR is still going to impress as it is still powered by the A12 Bionic chip, which you are still going to enjoy great performance throughout the ownership.
The iPhone XR also has the plethora of sensors for Face ID like the iPhone Xs, it comes with a single 12MP wide-angle lens with optical image stabilization, a larger sensor size and improved True Tone flash, there’s also support for wider stereo sound recording when shooting videos.
iPhone XR supports dual SIM like its higher end sibling, and it will be available in storage capacities of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB, it will be also made available on September 21 in stores. Apple has also kept the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 in store with a lower starting price from $449 and $599 respectively, hence the older iPhones are probably more accessible than the XR if you don’t require all that firepower.
