Huawei is going strong on the mid-range smartphone segment with the introduction of the nova Y72, boasting a large 6.75-inch display with a 90.26% screen-to-body ratio, it also features a large 6000mAh battery that supports 22.5W fast charging and interestingly, a customizable and physical X Button on the side.
The customizable X Button is an interesting selling point in the segment, as it allows you to configure shortcuts to apps by either double clicking or long pressing it, making it super useful for busy individuals, though it is unclear if it can be further customized to be a camera shutter button or perform other actions.
Powering the Huawei nova Y72 is the company’s own Kirin 710A chipset paired to 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage, the latter can be expanded with Huawei’s proprietary NM memory card up to 256GB.
Software wise, you are getting Huawei’s own EMUI 12 skinned on top of Android, which you unfortunately don’t get official Google apps and services preinstalled, but the essential apps can still be downloaded on Huawei’s AppGallery.
One noteworthy feature within the EMUI 12 experience is Simple Mode, which enlarges fonts and icons that allows seniors to interact with the phone effortlessly along with smoother controls.
The cameras on the Huawei nova Y72 is pretty basic with a 50MP main and 2MP macro camera on the back, while the front camera is a modest 8MP camera.
Available in colors of Black and Green, the Huawei nova Y72 will be available soon in Huawei Stores and online channels for RM899, customers will get a Huawei FreeBuds SE 2 worth RM199 when they purchase the phone.
