Earlier today saw the official launch of the Honor 5C in Malaysia, now Huawei subsidiary, Honor has launched another budget handset in China – the Honor 5A. Call it a slightly tuned down version of the mid-range Honor 5X, which reportedly had 8 million units sold worldwide.

Do note that this a budget smartphone, so be sure not to go on a rant about the Honor 5A, though some specs might surprise you, for the price you’re paying. For starters, the Honor 5A features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display at a sub-par 720p resolution. Underneath the hood, the handset splits into two variants, one running on a Snapdragon 617 SoC and Adreno 405 GPU and the other sporting Huawei’s home bred Kirin 620 processor with an ARM Mali-450 GPU. Both variants however, carry 2GB of RAM each, plus 16GB of expandable storage.

On the camera side of things, the Honor 5A sports a 13MP Sony sensor for its rear camera, plus a rather attractive front facing shooter for selfie lovers, at 8MP, compared to the 5MP selfie camera on the Honor 5X. The Honor 5A packs a 3,100mAh battery, which will probably get you throughout a full day at least, given the 720p display instead of a full HD one. The budget handset will ship with Android Marshmallow, topped off with Huawei’s own EMUI 4.1.

The Honor 5A will be available in the Chinese market for the time being, offered in six colors- black, white, gold, pink, yellow, and blue. What’s the price like? A super affordable 699 CNY (RM434.51). Pretty much a bang for your buck considering what the Honor 5A offers. What do you think?
