The tale of the Galaxy Note 7 will never be forgotten in the smartphone world. The chapter for the 2016 Samsung phablet has been officially closed, but the discontinued device might be making a surprise return. Samsung is probably not over what might have been its best smartphone just yet.
According to South Korean news outlet Han Kyung, the Galaxy Note 7 is set to make a return despite being rendered as not safe to use late last year. The report suggests manufacturing giant Samsung to refurbish a number of its Galaxy Note 7 units to be resold in the market. Samsung will reportedly repackage the units by replacing the existing hazardous battery with a new one, reduced to 3,200mAh from its original 3,500mAh capacity.
Samsung is said to be reselling the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 devices to ease up on the loss caused by the recall, and also to avoid penalties by South Korea’s Environmental Ministry upon the disposal of an estimated 2.5 million units of the Galaxy Note 7 units. 200,000 units have been reported to already been used for investigation and testing purposes.
The refurbished devices will primarily be sold in emerging markets such as India and Vietnam. Will you buy a refurbished Galaxy Note 7 for yourself?
