Unveiled in COMPUTEX, ASUS is ready to rock the Malaysian market with the debut of the ROG Phone on October 22. The ROG Phone is the company’s first gaming centric device that is built from the ground up, it features extremely speedy hardware such as a custom Snapdragon 845 chip with a 2.96GHz frequency mated to 8GB RAM with either 128GB or 512GB of onboard storage, there’s unfortunately no MicroSD expansion.
In other specs, the ROG Phone features a dual camera system that comprises of a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor with a f/1.7 aperture and a 5MP wide-angle lens, it is also the first phone to be able to connect to WiFi 802.11ad networks, which ASUS mainly promotes it for a lag-free wireless display experience. Like the Razer Phone 2, it has a 4000mAh battery and supports Quick Charge 4+ out of the box.
We have already gotten the retail version of the ROG Phone in our labs and while we are working on the review, it already impressed us in some ways. Starting with the display, the ROG Phone employs a 6-inch AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time, color reproduction and contrast is excellent like what you’d expect.
Furthermore, we also tested games such as PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9 and realized that the phone does indeed offers a lot more consistent frame rates than other Snapdragon 845 devices we have tested. The ROG Phone’s dual front facing speakers are also impressively loud and clear, which we absolutely love it.
Unlike the Razer Phone 2 that was launched earlier today, the ROG Phone has a more interesting hardware design that makes it a lot more appealing, such as the stylish aerodynamic cooling system on the back, which ASUS says that it is made of Nickel for better cooling performance, the ROG logo also glows in RGB colors like its rival.
According to leaks, the ROG Phone is expected to retail for RM3,499 for the 128GB storage model and RM3,999 for the 512GB storage model. We do however expect ASUS to come out with even more surprises on its launch price on October 22nd, stay tuned for our review coming up.
