According to Bloomberg (via GSMArena), Sony is expecting yet another year of PlayStation 5 scarcity as component shortages and logistic issues plague production timelines.
Despite several countries slowly finding their feet again with vaccine rollouts at a high, Sony is still finding it difficult to get their fastest-selling game console through their factory gates; and as a result, they will be forced to cut production until resources replenish.
The company cites the reasons being an unpredictable supply of not just chips for their products, but vaccines for their workers based in developing countries, where many of their production bases are placed.
1 million units less to be sold
Sony had initially forecasted a 16-million-unit production for the PS5 for the year; however, the number is now down to 15 million. Reports suggest that Sony will realistically only be able to sell 14.8 units.
With that said, the brand actually has a sales target of 22.6 million units, and this will now be a big challege, which is bad news for Sony and gamers alike.
