School in Johor uses facial recognition system to track student attendances

Times were simpler back in 2001 on my first day of school – sure, I cried uncontrollably until it was recess time, but it was easier to get into the groove of things. As we start the new decade, tech in schools have caught up too – SK Taman Perling in Johor takes that sentiment and takes things up a notch by introducing a facial recognition system to keep track of student attendances

According to The Star, the school’s headmaster was quoted as saying “We are always open to the use of the latest technology” – and in comparison, my old headmaster insisted on not fixing our virus-laden desktops in our computer labs – pfft.

By using a facial-recognition system, the headmaster said that the new tech will help smoothen the school’s daily operations, as it stores the pupil’s personal information and attendance records. As much as I like to see the latest tech being adopted by our education system, I for one, am glad this wasn’t around when I was a student #kakiponteng.
