As some of you may know, Samsung currently has a tiny problem with the Galaxy Note 7’s battery. This problem has led to the company issuing a global recall of the phone, advising owners of the Note 7 to trade in their phones ASAP. Of course, there are people who are way too stubborn to do so, so Samsung will be issuing a software update to the Note 7 that would see the limit the phone’s battery capacity to 60%.
Scheduled to be available on the 20th of September in South Korea, this update would limit the Note 7’s battery capacity in an attempt to prevent overheating issues that may lead to an exploding phone. Samsung has not currently mentioned anything about an international version of this update, but it isn’t too much of a stretch to say that international users will be getting the update as well.
It is uncertain if limiting the battery capacity of the Note 7 would actually prevent the phone’s battery from exploding in the first place. In any case, Samsung hopes that the more stubborn users would proceed to switch their Note 7s due to the subpar battery. If that still doesn’t convince current Note 7 users to swap their phones for a brand new unit, Samsung can, at the very least, say that they’ve actively tried to fix the battery issue when the company eventually defends itself against lawsuits from consumers.
