It’s bad news after bad news, after a wild Samsung rollercoaster ride, the Korean manufacturer has officially announced the permanent stop in production for its flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 7. After what seemed to be numerous explosions and fires of the device, Samsung has issued a global recall for the Note 7, trying to pick up the pieces. But things took a turn for the worse as reports of replacement Note 7’s started fuming in smoke again, forcing Samsung to close this disastrous chapter in smartphone history.

Oculus, the company responsible for Samsung’s Gear VR has stopped its support for the Galaxy Note 7. On top of that, the Gear VR will not be compatible with the phablet till further notice, for safety reasons. According to Android Central, Oculus has reportedly rolled out a forced update to its mobile app on the Note 7, pushing out a message, saying:

Customer safety is Oculus’ top priority. Oculus is removing support for all Note7 devices on the Oculus platform. Until further notice, Note7 devices will not be compatible with the Gear VR. For more information regarding the Note7, please contact Samsung directly.”

This is definitely a good move by Oculus and Samsung, badly burnt or injured faces is the last thing that both companies want, though both companies should have taken a similar step when the Note 7 units were recalled. Having said that, it’s better late than never, and the decision to stop support of the Gear VR for the Galaxy Note 7 is definitely for the better. What do you think?
