Samsung released 2TB variants of 850 PRO and 850 EVO

Samsung Electronics, one of the market leader in advanced memory technology and an innovator in consumer electronics, today announced a groundbreaking piece of hardware again – 2 TB of solid state drives. Two models will cover with this huge capacity intact – 850 PRO and 850 EVO, both of the models uses Samsung’s 3D Vertical NAND (V-NAND) that used in their retail SSDs.

These drives will retain the same 7-millimeter of thickness, 2.5-inch aluminium case as their predecessors did and equipped withSamsung’s advanced chip solutions. It includes 128 individual Samsung 32-layer 128 GB 3D V-NAND flash chips, an upgraded high-performance MHX controller that supports 2TB capacity, and four 20nm-class process technology with 4 GB LPDDR3 DRAM chips. With all these technologies, Samsung claims they will have the industry-leading performance and power efficiency and with added capacity, professionals, and consumers can experience a better computing environment especially for viewing or editing 4K video content nowadays.

Samsung promised the 2TB 850 PRO will sustain for 10 years or 300 terabytes written (TBW), meanwhile for the 2TB 850 EVO is 5 years or 150 terabytes written (TBW) which impressive to the capacity it contains and still capable to reach such high durability.Samsung also mentions that they are going to expand the high capacity of 3D V-NAND SSD lineups to include mSATA and M.2 form factors to address the gaming PC, laptop PC and high-performance SSD markets.

The Samsung 2TB 850 EVO estimated price is at USD 800 (approx. RM 3,050) and the Samsung 2TB 850 PRO estimated price is at USD 1000 (approx. RM 3,811).
