Samsung’s little Note 7 debacle has led to angry customers around the world. In its home country of South Korea, the situation isn’t any better as over 500 people have filed a lawsuit against the company, seeking 500,000 won per person in compensation. In what seems to be an attempt to placate Note 7 owners, Samsung is now rolling out an upgrade program option to them.
In a statement issued by Samsung yesterday, the company has said that it will allow Note 7 owners to join the Galaxy Upgrade program. For those who opt to trade in their Note 7 for a Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, these users will just need to pay half the amount of a S7 device, and they would be able to receive their new smartphones. Once the S8 or Note 8 is available, these users can then upgrade to Samsung’s latest device for free.
This trade up program is currently available only in South Korea. Samsung has mentioned that the availability of this program outside of South Korea will be dependent on the situation in each country. No further elaboration was given regarding this statement, so it remains to be seen if Samsung will extend this offer outside of its home base.
