Samsung has finally decided to up the game with its mid-range smartphones – the Galaxy A series. Ushering the New Year with a fancy hipster-styled event today, Samsung Malaysia Electronics launches 2 new devices in its Galaxy A Series (2017) range – the Galaxy A5 (2017) and the Galaxy A7 (2017).
All this time, the Galaxy S series takes the spotlight, and rightfully so being a Samsung flagship, but interestingly, Samsung has now included much of its flagship features in its Galaxy A series. One of everyone’s favourite is the IP68 dust and water resistance rating, the first in Samsung’s mid-range smarphones to offer this feature. You can now submerge your Galaxy A device for 30 minutes max without having to worry about damaging it.
Another important aspect of any smartphone these days is its camera capabilities. The Galaxy A series are equipped with enhanced 16MP front and rear camera with f/1.9 lens and Light+ Camera feature to produce sharper images in lowlight and at night. Another new feature that selfie and wefie fans would appreciate is the Floating Shutter Button which allows you to move it freely to anywhere on the screen in case you find it hard to reach.
The Galaxy A7 (2017) and Galaxy A65 (2017) sports a Full HD 5.7-inch and 5.2-inch Super AMOLED screens respectively, with larger battery capacity with 3,600mAh for the A7 and 3,000mAh for the A5 on top of Fast-Charging capabilities via a USB-C port. These smartphones are also Samsung Pay ready, a new alternative to your usual credit, debit and prepaid cards. Samsung Pay is currently undergoing open beta test for selected Maybank Visa cardholders, with more banks such as CIMB Mastercard, Citibank Mastercard and Visa, Standard Chartered Mastercard and Visa, to be made available soon.
Both Galaxy A devices also come preloaded with mySamsung, an app to setup, manage and optimize their Samsung experience; and Samsung Milk Music for music on demand. These smartphones also offer expandable storage up to 256 GB with 3GB RAM, with Always-On Display and Daydream mode, previously only available on Samsung flagship devies.
The Galaxy A7 (2017) is priced at RM1,899 inc GST, while the Galaxy A5 (2017) is priced at RM1,699 inc GST, and will be available at all Samsung brand stores nationwide from 25 January 2017 onwards. However, pre-orders will be starting from 6 January till 15 January 2017, and you can collect your device on 25 January 2017 onwards.
