Samsung has introduced the Galaxy SmartTag3, a smaller and lighter Bluetooth tracker that now supports core tracking features on both Galaxy phones and iPhones. The new model also promises up to 550 days of typical battery life, stretching to 790 days in Power Saving Mode.
The Galaxy SmartTag3 is initially launching in South Korea on 7 October 2026, followed by the United States and other markets in 2027. Samsung has not announced Malaysian pricing or availability, so local buyers will have to wait for a separate update.
Smaller tag, longer battery life
Samsung says the Galaxy SmartTag3 is 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than its predecessor. Its more rounded shape includes an aluminium-trimmed button, while the tracker itself will be offered in White and Black.
The replaceable CR2032 battery is rated for up to 550 days in normal use or 790 days with Power Saving Mode enabled. Those figures are based on Samsung’s internal testing, so real-world endurance will still depend on usage and network conditions.
Samsung is also introducing two optional accessories. The Silicone Case adds a keyring attachment for bags or keys, while the Loop Case is designed to fasten the tracker to items such as luggage. Both cases will be sold separately.
iPhone support arrives, but with limits
The biggest change is cross-platform support. iPhone users can use the SmartThings Find app to check and share a SmartTag3’s location, as well as activate Search Nearby when they are close to the tag. This is not Apple Find My integration; the tracker remains part of Samsung’s SmartThings Find ecosystem.
The iOS experience is also more limited than it is on Galaxy devices. Compass View, Ring Phone and Left Behind Alert are not available on iPhone, according to Samsung. Those omissions matter if you want precise directional guidance or automatic reminders when an item is left behind.
Compass View reaches farther on supported Galaxy phones
For compatible Galaxy smartphones, Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding expands Compass View to a claimed line-of-sight distance of up to 60 metres, roughly three times farther than before. Samsung currently lists the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy S26 Ultra and Galaxy S26 Plus as supported models, with more devices expected later. Ultra-wideband takes over for more precise guidance when the phone gets closer to the tag.
Samsung says the wider Galaxy Find Network now includes more than 900 million participating devices. When a SmartTag3 is outside Bluetooth range, nearby Galaxy devices can anonymously relay its location to the owner through SmartThings Find.
Other tools include a trial Place Notification feature, seven days of Location History and Movement Detection Alert, which can notify the owner when a tagged item starts moving. Location updates and alerts may be delayed depending on coverage and network conditions.
IP67 protection and Malaysian availability
The Galaxy SmartTag3 carries an IP67 rating, meaning it was tested in up to one metre of fresh water for 30 minutes under laboratory conditions. Samsung does not recommend using it at the beach or in a swimming pool.
Pet owners can attach the tracker to a collar, but Samsung warns that the coin-cell battery and the tag itself could pose a choking risk if the unit comes loose. It should be fastened securely and checked regularly.
The Galaxy SmartTag3 goes on sale in South Korea on 7 October 2026, with the US and additional markets following in 2027. Samsung Malaysia has not confirmed a local launch date or price at the time of writing.
