The Kogan Action Camera 3+ Silver Edition is from Australia that available to be purchased at Kogan official e-store for just AUD 155 (Approx RM 441.80). Indirectly it’s a GoPro competitor due to the functionality and the price point almost as half as GoProHero 4 Silver Edition. Will it be a good alternative action camera if you don’t wish to purchase the GoPros? Let me go into the details on what can this action camera do. Despite the price and design of the Kogan Action Camera 3+ Silver Edition, let’s take a dive on the camera’s specs compared to the entry-level GoPro Hero 4 Silver Edition and Xiaomi YiCamera.

Unboxing

On the right of the action camera you are able to plug in your audio in, AV out, and slot in your microSD card. There also a push button for you to remove the back screen.

The left side will be a mini USB for you to charge the action camera and a HDMI port to output your footage to the screen.

At the back, there is a 1.5″ display and easier maneuver when want to change settings.

On the top of the Kogan Action Camera 3+ there will be the power button, the screen which indicate your battery life and other information, the recording start button and a shutter button to capture image.

When you first getting the Kogan Action Camera out of its packaging. Certainly, the Action Cam is not as streamlined as theGoPro and YiCamera alternative, even if the weight difference is tiny. However, without a case the Action Camera will weight at 88g without the case. The accessories included a waterproof case, an extra cover for the waterproof case, charging/data cable, TFT display screen and manual book. The mounting system is incredibly similar to the GoPro, with the screw-based arraignment on the waterproof housing, which allow you to use with some GoPro accessories. Similar with many other action cameras, the Kogan version is not natively waterproof but Kogan included housing that could withstand depths of up to 100 metres.

Other than that, with a built-in motion sensor on the camera that starts and stop recording automatically, a laser pointer to work out direction the camera is pointing, and a 1.5-inch color screen at the back of the unit. On top of the device will be few buttons that will take care of the most important options: record, stop and still photo taking. Connectivity is provided via mini USB and HDMI, with room for attaching an external microphone.

Picture Quality

Image quality is bearable considering the price. The image is saturated to emphasise blues and greens particularly, which you rarely notice when viewing the video on its own. In bright outdoor situations, there are quite a lot of darkened corners (vignetting) at the edge of the frame. Shooting at 1080i at 60fps will amplify this with added interlacing effect, so the best method is stuck to 1080p at 30fps.

Conclusion, for users that require a budget Action Camera, the Kogan Action Cam 3+ Silver Editions provides the starter kit that you require getting started. But if you require best image and video quality you might want to consider Xiaomi YiCamera or maybe GoPro.
