Redmi looks set to introduce a new smartphone as reports spot a listing from the brand on China’s TENAA listing which reveals quite a promising budget device.
The most notable feature of the phone is that it comes with a giant 6,000mAh battery, which seems to be a must-have spec in affordable smartphones nowadays.
You also get a 6.53-inch LCD screen and a drop-notch selfie camera module. Under the hood is a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset, alongside up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. If the top-spec model is to be priced below RM1,000, we could see this selling like hot cakes here, considering Redmi’s reputation for making proper budget phones.
For imaging, you get quad 48MP camera system – pretty basic there. But as it uses the same camera software as Xiaomi, we can expect pretty decent results too.
There isn’t much by way of design, you get a rectangular camera module at the back and what looks like a frosted back panel that shimmers under light. Elsewhere, there’s a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, but not much else to shout about, aesthetics-wise.
To make up for the bland exterior, Redmi will be offering the phone in several paintjobs such as orange, blue, green, purple, red, white, and black. There’s no word on when this phone will launch yet, but it’s safe to assume we will have a new budget entry on our hands to start 2021.
