Qualcomm has just announced the Snapdragon 870 5G, a flagship chipset that sits just below the Snapdragon 875 series.
The chipset is essentially a higher-clocked version of the Snapdragon 865+ – its prime core runs at 3.2GHz, from 3.1GHz on the SD 865+. This breathes new life into the brand’s 7nm chipset and we could very well see this in lower-end flagships this year.
The chip uses the Kryo 585 CPU and the Adreno 650 GPU. Like the Snapdragon 865+, the 870 supports up 64MP cameras, and 8K video recording. There’s an external Qualcomm X55 modem, so the chipset is 5G-ready as well.
According to reports, we can expect brands such as OnePlus, OPPO and Xiaomi to be some of the first to utilize the new chipset, and we’re definitely excited to see how it fairs against Snapdragon 888 phones in terms of value.
